Forum Rules

Welcome to Shooters Hill Forum! These rules help keep our community friendly, safe, and useful for everyone.

General Rules

1. Illegal or harmful content
Posting illegal or harmful content as defined by the Online Safety Act is strictly forbidden. Anyone posting such material will be immediately banned and the content removed.
2. Post with respect
The following will not be tolerated: insults or profanity directed at another member, trolling (intentionally provoking arguments), questioning other members' sanity or mental health, harassment or bullying.
3. Stay on topic
Keep posts relevant to the topic. If you want to change the conversation, start your own topic. This isn't enforced in The Lounge.
4. Post in the right place
When creating topics, ensure they're in the appropriate forum. Don't post the same thing in multiple forums (cross-posting).
5. Moderation
Moderators may edit or remove posts when necessary to keep discussions on track or remove inappropriate content.
6. One account per person
Creating multiple accounts is not allowed, especially if done to evade restrictions, fake interest in a topic, or deceive other members.
7. Protect personal information
Don't post personal information publicly - no personal emails, phone numbers, or home addresses. Use private messages to share contact details safely.

Rules for Businesses

Shooters Hill Forum exists for the benefit of local residents - not as an advertising board. Please read these rules carefully if you represent a business.
Self-promotion is forbidden
It is forbidden to create topics purely to advertise a commercial, for-profit business or service.
Exceptions
Self-employed childcarers, cleaners, and tutors may post in the appropriate Jobs & Services subforum. If someone asks for recommendations and you can help, you may reply to recommend your services.
What IS allowed
Replying to "looking for..." posts where you can genuinely help. Customers (not yourself) creating recommendation posts about your business. Posting genuine community events (not just sales promotions).
No spam PMs
Do not send unsolicited private messages to advertise your business. This is spam. Anyone reported for this will be immediately banned.
No fake reviews
Creating fake recommendations for your own business or one you're connected to is illegal and taken extremely seriously. Suspicious posts will be removed and repeat offenders permanently banned.

Rules for Selling Items

You can list items for sale in the Marketplace and Most Wanted forums.
What's allowed
Physical items for local collection. Items located within our area: SE18, SE9, SE3, SE7, SE10, DA16, DA15. Free items and giveaways. Goods that are legal, safe, and accurately described.
What's NOT allowed
Animals (please use local rescue centres for rehoming), tobacco products, weapons/knives/dangerous items, adult goods or services, illegal items, counterfeit goods, items outside our local area.
Listing guidelines
Clear titles with price (e.g., "Ikea Desk - £20" not just "Desk"). Include your area (e.g., "Collection from Eltham"). Add photos where possible - the first image becomes your thumbnail. One topic per item - don't create multiple listings for the same thing. Maximum 5 listings per day per account.
When your item sells
Use the "Mark as Sold" checkbox when editing your post. This adds a SOLD badge and keeps the listing visible for reference. Please don't just delete sold items - price history helps other members!
Disputes
All transactions are between buyer and seller. The forum cannot get involved in disputes, but please report any suspected fraud to the administrators.

Rules for Events

Local events can be posted in What's On in the Community Hub.
What's accepted
Community events in or near Shooters Hill SE18. Local charity events. One-off events with specific dates and times. Events genuinely relevant to local residents.
What's NOT accepted
Online events with no local connection. Commercial sales disguised as events. Events without specific dates/times.
